Epic Spongebob Matte Painting After Effects, Illustrator, Maya, mental ray, Photoshop January 2010
This is a matte painting I did for a Spongebob Squarepants spot for Nickelodeon. I created a base model in 3D (in Maya), painted everything ( in Photoshop) and then reprojected on the base 3d mesh. I then did a camera move zooming out of the picture with the live action plate nested into one of the gardens. If you'd like to see the shot, check out the vimeo and youtube links at the bottom.
I've also created a timelapse "making of" in the same video clip so you can see all the steps I took to create this image. The full res version is approx. 8000x8000, due to the detail needed in the center of the image. This was created for Dyrdee Media in Berlin. Additional compositing in the animated version was done by Ian Hutchinson.
