Entering the Void
Maya, mental ray, Photoshop
September 2009

This is a ship that I created for a short film for a friend. Based on a design by Jim Byrkit. This is a beauty render I've been meaning to finish up for a while.

The Ship was created in Maya and textures, compositing and background created in photoshop. Rendered in Mental Ray.

I was pretty surprised how hard it is to make a realistic looking spaceship. Lighting is the trickiest part, in the end I had to fake some bounced light to make it look nice, but really in deep space it would look pretty different. It was a cool challenge and I look forward to applying what I learned on this spaceship to my next one.

Comments and crit are definitely welcome!

Thanks,
Chris
