This is a ship that I created for a short film for a friend. Based on a design by Jim Byrkit. This is a beauty render I've been meaning to finish up for a while.

The Ship was created in Maya and textures, compositing and background created in photoshop. Rendered in Mental Ray.

I was pretty surprised how hard it is to make a realistic looking spaceship. Lighting is the trickiest part, in the end I had to fake some bounced light to make it look nice, but really in deep space it would look pretty different. It was a cool challenge and I look forward to applying what I learned on this spaceship to my next one.

Comments and crit are definitely welcome!

Thanks,

End of the World Matte Painting

This is a matte painting that I created for a Terminix commercial. The idea was to make a nuclear holocaust sort of city that only cockroaches could survive in. It was a really fun assignment, several of these sort of shot were created for the whole commercial by myself and co-worker Matt Longwell. This shot was the "hero" shot and was created by me. It took about 2 weeks to finish. I used Maya for the 3D layout and to project the matte painting for the camera move and the painting was created in Photoshop. I'd love for thoughts and comments and I'd be happy to answer any questions.

This is a little concept piece created for a future project. I wanted to have sort of a burning illustrated city in the back with a photo mosiac guy in front. the body is painted but the head was from a photograph I took. I love the feeling of this piece.

I used photoshop for this image.

I'd just like to know what people think of it, specific critique is welcome as well. Thanks!
This image is sort of a test for the style that I will use in a graphic novel I'm working on. I was very happy with how it turned out.

It was hand drawn images mixed with photo textures and composited in Photoshop. Some painting was done in Art Rage.

This is a personal painting created nearly entirely in Art Rage with a little tweaking in Photoshop. I was really happy with how the colors came out. My focus was on mood rather than accurate realism in the character.
This is sort of visual interpretation of Fiona Apple and her music. Her most recent album "Extraordinary Machine" is brilliant and inspiring. I would love to some day make a video that looks like this.
This piece was inspired by a poem my friend Annabelle wrote. It's sort of a mishmash of ideas and feelings. Insecurity, Attachment to material things, the transient nature of life etc.

I created it using hand drawn pencil drawings that were scanned, along with some photo manipulation all within Photoshop.

I started by drawing pieces of it in pencil, scanned it and colored and manipulated it with Adobe Photoshop. I'd love to read what people think of it, would they would change what they hate about it even.

This is sort of a bizarro self-portrait. It's a combination of several methods. I started with a pencil sketch and I painted the character in photoshop. The background I used this killer freeware app called ArtRage, a great oil paint simulator. Then the whole thing was put together with some random noise and textures in photoshop. Check out the bigger version to see more detail. I'd love to hear what people think of it. Thanks for looking!
